Some time ago I bought an Acer Aspire One, but instead of going with Windows I selected the version running Linux. At first I didn't do much with it as I found the interface user unfriendly. Then after installing the desktop version of Ubuntu on an old computer I discovered they had also built one specifically for netbooks.
When I finally got the bootable USB drive to work the rest of the installation was a cinch. Once started the netbook version of Ubuntu has a really neat user experience. It makes it simple to navigate around and seems to make using netbook a simpler more intuitive experience.
Putting Ubuntu onto the netbook provides me with a great and light alternative to carrying my larger laptop around with me everywhere. I think this is only the start of software getting the best out of these lightweight computers and I am looking forward to trying new platforms like Moblin in the near future.
